city by the bay

Right now, I feel a complete sickness for San Francisco and I just miss the place so much. I'm unsure whether it is the whole travelling thing generally, and the need to escape ... but then why haven't I got the same sickness for Montreal, or Venice? Yes I am am definately going back to Venice sometime as who cannot resist its timeless charm, Montreal I loved the Latin Quarter but the bottom line I associate it as a conference city. San Francisco however, is currently eating my stomach.

I suspect some of this focus has to be with some of the blogs I have recently been reading, as a result of joining Orkut. Orkut in its relatively newly born state, seems to be one of those social techie heavens where everyone seems to think they are in the hub of the next big thing. Needless to say, Silicon Valley rules and linked blogs seem to be centred around the Bay Area. However, it does not explain my nostalgia for strolling in Chinatown weaving in and out of the shops at my leisure, connecting with my hippy soul in Haight Ashbury, feeling like a complete tourist boarding the tram down to Pier 39 to watch the seals whilst eating Clam Soup, stumbling upon the perfect Banoffe Pie in Castro, just wasting the day in bookshops, and eating breakfast each morning at a fabulous French cafe at the foot of Chinatown. Then there is the Gate which really makes you feel as if you are on the other side of the world, not to mention the escape to the vineyards ...

Is it actually possible to be sick for a city you have only spent a week in? SF: I will be back, someday.
