Exciting Times!

Remember the entry I wrote about my family moving to Ohio? I've found a descendant in the States! They wound up in Illinois by way of Indiana (how, I'm not entirely clear). I'm just waiting for someone to reply to the Hello! I'm your cousin type e mail. The wait is already killing me (I only e mailed them two minutes ago).

And I already found two other living relatives today, all in my dad's family (different branches), this must be a record. There's something to be said about your knee playing up and cannot walk; you start browsing.

Update: still no reply, but I now know I'm on the right family. I've just found from the 1910 census Deborah (see previous post) is "deaf and dumb" and a Teacher. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Update 2: Deborah must have worked at Ohio School for the Deaf (based in Columbus, where the family were living in 1910). My family would have been able to sign or used some form of gesture too, or else how would they have communicated. The coolest surprise today, I must go to OH next time I'm in the States.

That is *very* exciting! :)

This is way better than Christmas!

Last night found two more people alive from this family (bringing this up to 3).

However, none of them have replied to me. I've gotta wait until USA wakes up (I'm well practised on that one, but its still killing me).

Yesterday's relation find stands at 5! All this excitement is making me dizzy.

@Gaynor - have you researched your family history?

No, not really beyond talking to various relations about it when they were still alive. I'm fascinated by people's research though - someone I know is back to 1534 or something ridiculous!

Well any news?

One reply this morning, from a cousin in California (running an internet business there). Parents live in Wyoming. Took me ages to reply. And have a story involving a gun / killing the wife(!)

Will blog, when I catch my breath.
