The world's obsession with tech

Boing Boing is carrying a post which points to a blog about solar powered hearing aids in Botswana.

Boing Boing never seems to see past tech when it comes to ears not working, and this has happened more than once. When are you going to post something related to sign language. Somehow it just reflects an inner anxiety of must hear.

You neglected to mention they wanted to waive the patent to make them cheaply available to Africans who need aids. If the technology works for the individual with a loss, I can see no cause for any complaint or quibble, it's helping people with a hearing loss who AREN'T deaf, there's no suggestion anywhere these aids will make DEAF hear.

You'd no doubt, rather them all signing when there is residual hearing they can use ? A minority of one then.... !

You love missing the point don't you Marmalade.

Not at all, the fact there are companies/groups that promote hearing aid use, may annoy you and noesis, but it's of great benefit to those with loss, they concentrate naturally on techie stuff because aids are obviously a majority need, and no use to deaf people anyway, why should they promote sign to people with residual hearing, must hear ? damn right, 1 in 7 cannot be wrong. Mind how you go....

More than anyone I know, you are so in love with that word MAJORITY and it absolutely kills you that you BELONG TO the MINORITY whose ears don't work or are faulty.

And BOING BOING is a directory of wonderful things [read the by line]..so ansa Alison's question.

I fail to see where I haven't answered the question. It was about aids to those that can benefit, not aids to those who can't. What is Noesis' answer ? forget hearing aids ? and concentrate on what exactly ? If Noesis was suggesting Boing Boing don't place emphasis on signed techie stuff, why not say so ? not have a go at hearing aid use, it defeated the point.
