Your Tube

A post over at TechCrunch states that Your Tube might soon be acquired.

This might have implications on vlogs using sign language, one that I have had particular concern for a while, archiving. Sign language has not traditionally been preserved, and to had the archiving of sign language vlogs to a commercial company is a dangerous thing. This needs to be explored properly, and better still, solutions.

I think the fact freebies are around has increased deaf people's ability to explore sign on the net. If there is a 'dedicated' Deaf Vidblog hosting site, would it be selective ? is a concern many would have.

There is always a concern that BSL learners and such, would be edited out of this 'deaf space'. I don't think the track record of deaf-run sites and such has been very good for democracy, it's still freebies that provide the real and 'without bias' access to us all.

MM

Why can't you get it through your head MM, that there is no ulterior motive in deaf-blogs or the styles which deaf blogs are created.

IT IS OUR SPACE TO DO AS WE WISH, and there is nothing sinister in choosing how we wish to express ourselves OK!!!!!

If there is a dedicated deaf vidlog site, I'm sure the hosts will gracefully allow you to post vidlogs using speech..

Deaf-blogs is not about cutting anybody out. It is about giving us all a starting point.
